Recent History

So, i haven't written for a really long time. I am so terrible at this!

Anyway, updates.......currently i am sick. I called off of work a few hours ago for tomorrow. I will get up early tomorrow and call the doctor. That sucks. I really can't afford to be sick and miss work. I am acting as head teacher for our preschool and it is very bad for me to miss work. I am going to try to not worry too much. My throat is so sore. i should be in bed but i am watching my thursday tv and i don't want to miss it.

Let's see, i have decided what i am going to be for Halloween. I am going to be Strawberry Shortcake. I have found a pair of green and white striped socks, i have a pattern to make a great apron and i am looking for a cheep red dress. I also may make a hat. I am going to be old fashioned strawberry shortcake and my niece is going to be the new version of strawberry shortcake. (this is actually just a coincidence. i decided to be this and talked to her on the phone yesterday and she said she was going to be the same thing. She has really good taste!)

Okay, what else........I am currently reading a really funny book "Good Omens" by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. I love both authors individually and thier work together is amazing. If you hae never read any of their work, you have to check it out. I also just finished reading "A Wrinkle in Time" by Madeleine L'Engle. I enjoyed this book a great deal and i am looking foward to reading the rest of the series.

ohhhhh, my throat. I have been drinking tea but it is not helping. okay, i am going to bed.

but, before i go, let me know what you are going to be for Halloween.

Intersting Fact

This summer while on a camping trip as a way to occupy my niece i made up a story about a daddy long legs spider named Jack. She, her mother and her grandmother (my mom) all ended up in the story. She loved it and we have now become obsessed with finding 'Jack' everywhere we go.

So, i had the idea to actually write a story about Jack for her and my nephew who has also caught on to 'Jack' fever. I hope to be able to write something (and maybe illustrate it) for her birthday and/or Christmas.

So, in order to write the story i wanted to know a little bit more about Daddy long legs. Well i was surprised with the information i found. the 'spiders' that we have been looking at are not actually spiders. The following is from an article I found online.

"Although they resemble spiders, daddy long-legs, more correctly called harvestmen, are neither spiders nor insects. Taxonomically, they are arthropods, in the same class as spiders, Arachnida, but in a different order, Phalangida. Anatomically daddy long-legs differ from spiders because their three body segments -- head, thorax and abdomen, are joined as one compact body segment. Spiders have two body segments -- the head and thorax are joined as the cephalothorax, and the abdomen is the second body segment. Insects, which are taxonomically in the class Insecta, have three distinct body segments." (Carpenter, 2000)

I just thought this was very interesting and now i need to continue my research so that i can write a proper story that will teach my niece and nephew about these interesting insects and help to dispell the thought that they are spiders. You learn something new everyday!

Back again

I got the best email from one of my employees yesterday. Some of you may have had it forwarded to you from me but i just have to share it with everyone. I find it to be the most hillarious forwards i have gotten in a while. Please read:

If you don't laugh out loud after you read this you are in a coma! This is even funnier when you realize it's real! Next time you have a bad day at work think of this guy.Rob is a commercial saturation diver for Global Divers in Louisiana. He performs underwater repairs on offshore drilling rigs. Below is an E-mail he sent to his sister. She then sent it to radio station 103.2 on FM dial in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, who was sponsoring a worst job experience contest. Needless to say, she won.

Hi Sue,

Just another note from your bottom-dwelling brother. Last week I had a bad day at the office. I know you've been feeling down lately at work, so I thought I would share my dilemma with you to makeyou realize it's not so bad after all. Before I can tell you what happened to me, I first must bore you with afew technicalities of my job.

As you know, my office lies at the bottom of the sea. I wear a suit to the office. It's a wet suit. This time of year the water is quite cool. So what we do to keep warm is this: We have a diesel powered industrial water heater. This $20,000 piece of equipment sucks the water out of the sea. It heats it to a delightful temperature. It then pumps it down to the diver through a garden hose, which is taped to the air hose.

Now this sounds like a darn good plan, and I've used it several times with no complaints. What I do, when I get to the bottom and start working, is take the hose and stuff it down the back of my wet suit. This floods my whole suit with warm water! It's like working in a Jacuzzi.

Everything was going well until all of a sudden, my butt started to itch. So, of course, I scratched it. This only made things worse. Within a few seconds my butt started to burn. I pulled the hose out from my back, but the damage was done. In agony I realized what had happened. The hot water machine had sucked up a jellyfish and pumped it into my suit. Now, since I don't have any hair on my back, the jellyfishcouldn't stick to it However, the crack of my butt was not as fortunate. When I scratched what I thought was an itch, I was actually grinding the jellyfish into the crack of my butt.

I informed the dive supervisor of my dilemma over the communicator. His instructions were unclear due to the fact that he, along with five other divers, were all laughing hysterically.

Needless to say I aborted the dive. I was instructed to make three agonizing in-water decompression stops totaling thirty-five minutes before I could reach the surface to begin my chamber dry decompression. When I arrived at the surface, I was wearing nothing but my brass helmet.

As I climbed out of the water, the medic, with tears of laughter running down his face, handed me a tube of cream and told me to rub it on my butt as soon as I got in the chamber. The cream put the fire out, but I couldn't poop for two days because my butt was swollen shut.
So, next time you're having a bad day at work, think about how much worse it would be if you had a jellyfish shoved up your butt.

Now repeat to yourself, 'I love my job, I love my job, I love my job.' Now whenever you have a bad day, ask yourself, is this a jellyfish bad day? May you NEVER have a jellyfish bad day!!!!!

So, i hope you all find this amusing. I know i really did. My work has sucked lately but i have not had a Jellyfish bad day and I pray it never gets so bad i can say i've had a similar day.

Totally freaky

So, I live somewhat close to West Virginia and I don't have cable. Thus, the news stations that i have all come out of Huntington, WV and Charleston. Right now on the news i am watching late breaking news about an explosion at a chemical plant. They have advised people living in the immediate area to a Shelter in Place. That evidently means that you are supposed stay in your home, turn off the ac, try to seal up your doors and windows, and potentially cover your mouth and nose with a damp rag. The way it sounds this type of thing happens (not often) but occassionaly in the area so the residents are used to it. I would be totally freaking out!

Anyhow, sorry i havn't blogged much this week. Work has gotten crazy. not that it usually isn't but, i have worked at least 11 hours each day this week and have just finished a 13.5 hour day. I am so glad to be taking the day off tomorow but i guess its not taking a day off when you've already worked 48 hours. (My head preschool teacher, whom i love, turned in her notice on Monday and we start preschool next week. So, i've had some adjusting to do. We also started regular school this week so we've been trying to get the kids and parents with the before and after school used to a new routine. Always fun.)

Tomorow i am leaving to go on a long weekend trip. I am meeting my family and we are going to be spending the weekend in cabins at a lake in north east ohio, near pensylvania. It should be a lot of fun and i can't wait to get there. I need to get up and pack and leave by 9 am, but it will be worth the lack of sleep. (I just got home from work and errands about an hour ago and have been trying to settle down so i can get to bed. I have to have time to decompress before I sleep.) I will try to write more next week. I hope everyone has a great Labor Day Weekend. Please be safe, be happy and have fun!

Vacation

Hey everyone. I am here in the Hocking Hills enjoying my days off. I have had a great time so far and am looking forward to a couple more relaxing, enjoyable days.

As most of you know today was my birthday. I am 28! Yeah! (Of course that means i am that much closer to 30, but that's okay.) I spent the day having a spa treatments, soaking in the hot tub, reading, walking in the woods (not too much, i have heard there might be bears in the area), shoping, and just plain relaxing and enjoying my time away.

Tommorow i check out of my cabin and will meet my parents at Hocking Hills State Park for a couple of nights camping. It should be a fun weekend.

Well, i hope everyone has a great Friday and a wonderful weekend.

Much Love, April

SUMMER CAMP IS OVER, CELEBRATE!

SUMMER CAMP IS OVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
For those of you who are not aware, i have just completed nine weeks of summer camp. Anyone who is interested in a safe (well moderately), slightly painful, effective birth control, i have a great suggestion for you. Spend a few days in a day care center, especially with school age children. You won't want to risk getting pregnant and you'll be exhausted most days.

Anyway, school starts in a week and a half and I am very glad to have a slight reprieve to catch my breath and dive into the new school year. Before and After School and Preschool will be starting soon and I'm happy to have a few days at work with out the children.

So, i just finished Nicky's bag and Kayla's is also done. I do need to add the embellishments but I have the main sewing done and I'm glad to have them at least basically finished. I can't wait to give them to the kids tomorrow and see if they fit and if they like them. I can't wait to see them wearing them. I will be sure to take some photos.

I have also booked my birthday weekend vacation. I have a cabin with a hot tub for two nights, a day at a spa and a couple of days of camping. I am going to take two days off work and not think about all of the things i should be doing while i am away. I am going to read a lot, shop (well browse and wish), have my spa treatments and just relax. IT WILL BE GREAT!!!!

Okay, i need to get to bed. I have to be up early (yuck) and drive a few hours tomorrow.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Thanks! To all of my wonderful friends and family who have emailed and/or posted on my blog. Thank you. I really hope that this will give me a better way to keep in touch with some of you.

So, i am going to upload a photo because i realized, while the photo i put on my site is one that i actually deem 'okay' of me, most of you have not seen me with my new shorter hair. So, i just sat and took a photo of myself with my laptop to import. I hope i look decent. Its been another long day at work and even though i tried to slap on a little make-up (how vain am i) i am still looking a little rough.

Anyway, for those of you who don't know, yes, i did cut off 12 inches, yes 1 foot, of hair back in May. i decided that i needed to do something different and after a co-worker donated her hair i followed her example. I had been thinking about doing that for a while and when she said they they would cut your hair for free i jumped at the chance. So, i donated my hair to Locks for Love and have been thrilled with the results. It has been much cooler this summer and i just like the look. (my family liked it because they thought it was more grown up, like that was a good thing.) Okay, enjoy the photo, laugh a bit at my expense and i will write again soon.

Hello

Hey everyone. I've decided to try out this thing. I don't have any clue what i'm going to write about, but i'll just write.

Okay, so I just finished reading a great book. "Dragonspell" by Donita K. Paul. It was really good. It's a christian fication fantasy book. I have found that i really like dragon books. Odd. I read Eragon and Eldest this summer as well and when i saw a christian dragon book, i had to try it! there are several other books in the series and i'm trying to contain myself to not just run out and buy the others. I have about 7 books laying around the house waiting for me to read. All of them by authors that i really like. So, i will try to remain calm and not just go an buy the others. Maybe i'll make it to the weekend. LOL

I have also been reading this other great series. I have read 7 books so far in the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett. This is an amazing series! It is such a funny, sarcastic, quirky series. It is part fantasy, part comedy, part crazy. I love it. Death is a main character in the book and he is so much fun. I guess that sounds morbid, but its so true.

I'm also working on several sewing projects right now. I am working on bookbags for my niece and nephew. My neice's is partially done, but i don't know if it like it. It is not that great, but its okay. My nephew's bag is partially done and i'm hoping that it will come out better. Maybe i'll redo my niece's now that i have figured out the kinks. Anyway, i'm making the bags because they are both starting preschool this fall. They are growing up so quickly and i can't wait to see them wearing thier bags, they will look so cute!

I am also working on a purse for my mom, a purse for myself (hopefully reversable), and i want to start a tote for myselft. I may make the tote for myself with the same pattern i have made to make my niece and nephew's and then we can all have a new bookbag.

I am so excited that summer camp is almost over. The weeks have gone by very fast and i'm so glad that it's almost done. It is a lot of work running a day camp and i will be glad to be back to preschool, before/after school, and regular programs.

Okay, that is all i will write for now. I don't know who all will read this, but if you haven't heard from me in a while. I'm sorry. I have really been terrible about keeping in touch and i need to do better. I will be trying to call, email, write, ect. to many people in the near future (Jenn, Lanetta, Tasha, Katie, and so many more)
